Challenge

Okay folks, it’s time for this blog’s first challenge. That’s right, you guys challenge me. First some backstory:
When I first got pregnant I said I would cut back on caffeine, easier said then done. Especially when I realized I am truly addicted to caffeine. Start shaking, can’t function without, addicted. So before long, these were reintroduced into my life. Yes, diet cokes, one of the worst types of soda. A few months later I began having contractions, super early. We got that under control, but last week I was reading something that says “women who drink more than 4 DIET sodas a day during pregnancy are 80% more likely to have premature children” Uh, 4? I have like 6 + a day. That may explain why I’m at risk for premature labor. Not completely, but I’m sure it didn’t help.
Now, I am due in 5 weeks, and still have not kicked the caffeine habit, that is where you guys come in.
For every /real/ comment I get on this post I will go 6 hours without diet soda. No limit of how many per person, but they must be real comments, such as words of encouragement, recipes, or anything really as long as it is not just random letters. I have few readers on this blog, but plan on asking my amazing friend, Matthew, to help get this post some publicity, because I am hoping for one week without soda. Also, everyday without soda I will post how I feel, and what I drank to replace it.

Edit: I almost forgot to add; I will begin the no-soda challenge Sunday; February 6th,at midnight. However, comments are not closed until Wednesday, February 16th.

  1. Getting my comment in! :) I know you can do it. Don't want the little fucker poppin' out before it's fully cooked!

  2. What constitutes a "REAL" Comment?

  3. Ok, the fact that we have to go through the stupid Capcha crap should count. BTW...coke really?

  4. So Caitlyn didn't want to add to her own time, but she said anything could be considered "real" as long as it wasn't non-sense.

  5. @Felipa

Anything but nonsense counts as a real comment. No comments of just punctuation, or letters.

Also, Capcha removed; didn't even realize I had it enabled !

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh and she also removed CAPCHA!

  7. Oops, I spelled your name wrong. Sorry Caitlin :)

  8. I recently kicked my diet soda addiction - and you can do it too. It sucks at first, but it gets much easier. You can do this!

  9. Hi. I am Matt's cousin from Louisiana. You CAN do this. Prayers and best wishes for a healthy baby.

  10. I used to work at a convenience store and was allowed to drink all the fountain soda I wanted for free. At my worst, I drank 4 64 oz sodas a shift plus about 6 cans at home. It sucked all kinds of butt to break that habit. I have faith in you. :)

  11. In the words of the great Rob Schneider "YOU CAN DO IT!!"

  12. You can totally do this. After my son was born, I decided to give it up and did it for an entire YEAR! 6/3/09 - 6/3/10. When I took my first sip of Coke Zero it tasted like a cleaning product... but not for long... so I know good and well how addicting those things are. I am currently trying to give them up at least for the month of February. So far, so good! It's mind over matter and YOU CAN DO THIS! P.S. I am not a coffee drinker, so my challenge to myself was to be 100% liquid caffeine free -- and I did it. It was hard at times because we don't realize how "social" it is to go get a Diet Coke, and it is hard to resist temptation when ordering food, too. But I did it, and you can, too!

Here is a blog post from when I was 11 months into the cola-free period: http://irunformylife.blogspot.com/2010/04/great-cola-debate.html

In hindsight I wish I had never gone back on the sauce!!!

  13. Drop the pop can! You can do this!

  14. Hang in there! Just a few short weeks to go!

  15. Hey --- You will one day walk away from a soda and never turn back. Think of your baby every time you want to reach for a soda.

  16. Meep! That's SCARY! O_O Oh, uh, and happy 6 hours... *evil grin*

    xoxo

  17. "Anything but nonsense?"

Well, I might as well not even waste my time. ;)

  18. You can ABSOLUTELY do this. I had a horrible Diet Coke habit and I've finally kicked it. I still have cravings from time to time, but I chew some gum or go for a walk or just do SOMETHING else (my fave is painting my nails.)

  19. I am currently on day 5 of no diet coke (or other soda). It's hard, but is also completely do-able.

I don't think the problem necessarily is that you drink *a* diet coke a day, but drinking six? That's 72 ounces of diet coke - the amount of water you should be drinking a day!

I hope you think of that precious baby as you complete this challenge. Who knows? Maybe you'll never turn back?

  20. Matt are you "the crazy runner"? Thanks for finding me on DM and reminding me that I need to get moving again :)
Wow 6 days? We love you Caitlin :)

  21. Wait ... Matt is stalking Felipa but hasn't given ME a much-needed ass-kicking? I think I'm hurt.

  22. Oh. This is supposed to be about Caitlin and keeping my nephew to be safe and healthy and in as long as he should be, huh? KICK THE COKE!!!!! Seriously. And the longest you can keep it kicked the better. John doesn't see it at home at all (I only drink it at work -- hey, staying awake all night with no caffeine ain't gonna happen) and at 4 1/2 he still hasn't had any soda in his little body -- diet or otherwise.

  23. And would you change the name of my freakin' blog in your roll already? :)

  24. Oh heck. Might as well make it a full day that I give you .... this time around .... and now I have to go check on my CityVille and see if my noodle house if going to give me the last jade rabbit I need for my pagoda.

    ReplyDelete
  25. BTW...you haven't updated the link to your blog on your twitter page.

  26. Hey now! My husband should be stalking me and not all these other womenz! WTH dude? LOL

YOU CAN DO IT Caitlin! I would recommend those G2's but your trying to avoid the artificial stuff. I drank those g2's the last 2 months on pregnancy with my 2nd.

  27. You never ever ever talk about baby daddy anymore. That worries me you know!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I assume you have registered with all the diaper companies but if you haven't do it now!!! You will find which kind you like the best eventually. Unless you want to cloth diaper. If you want to do that I know a lot of people online that deal with/sell cloth dipes.

  29. Did you know that since my hubby went back to school he slacks on housework? Make the house husband get to work pretty please!!! :)

  30. and with that I am off to bed. Nothing like giving you an extra day plus to deal with! LOL i hope to dream sweet dreams because I am stressed as all get out.

  31. For me, I've never been super into soda. As a kid we were allowed one a day, and I've kind of always stuck with that. But it is easy to get a soda when it comes with your meal at a fast food joint, so I totally get that. I am happy that most fast food places now offer unsweetened ice tea. This is now my go to drink and I also make a pitcher at home every other day or so. I find it as a good, easy to drink, low calorie, low caffeine drink - that is basically water so is good for me. Good luck with your challenge :)
